2010 Should be a Good Year for the Cable Assembly Industry

The Cable Assembly Industry has sure seen its ups and downs in the past few years, due to the economy and the ever changing automobile market.

A recent article titled “The 2009-2010 Automotive Market: A Year of Turmoil, a Year of Recovery?” was posted on CableAssembySupplier.com. It outlines the facts and figures contributing to the rollercoaster ride that the industry has faced.

The article explains that in 2009 the faulting economy led to a decreased sale of expensive cars. It also caused gasoline prices to skyrocket. These two factors contributed to fewer cars being manufactured and less cable assemblies needed.

Fortunately, the Cable Assembly Industry is expected to see brighter days in 2010. The eco-friendly market is drawing attention to hybrid and electrical cars. These are becoming more and more in demand, bringing car manufacturers, and the cable assembly company’s supplying them their parts, an increased sales volume.

CMA Medical Cables

Every day there is a new medical technology developing, enhancing the way medical professionals treat and diagnose patients. However, one feature that does not change in the constant alternating world of medical technology, are the cables that allow these technologies to run. Without special medical cable assembly, medical monitoring equipment like, ECG machines, defibrillators, and fetal monitors would not be able to function properly.

Medical device cables must be designed to withstand normal wear and tear, high tensions, high temperatures, and a high frequency of abrasions. They are constructed in abrasion resistant jackets that with allow only a low-surface friction, which displays a high tolerance for mechanical durability.

Different features that are taken in to consideration when developing different medical cables are type of cable, conductor range, plating, shielding, insulation, and the jacket material.

CMA is a cable manufacturing company that is committed to providing their customers with the best quality cables around. CMA has worked in developing medical control cables for over 30 years. Some of CMA’s cable development capabilities include wire and cable formatting, extrusion of cable with nylon or vinyl materials, electro cutting which fuses wires to prevent fraying, stress relieved cables, wide variety of fittings and materials, passivation, heat treating, crimping and swaging, and general assembly.

CMA has helped create and design products for medical and mobility equipment utilizing their Remote Actuation products for beds, wheelchairs and ultrasound equipment and also Surgical and Diagnostic Equipment utilizing our Cycle Flex products for endoscopic equipment, heart monitoring equipment and ligation products.

Committed to Quality

When dealing with any product or service, consumers want quality assurance. And in a marketplace filled to the brim with people constantly trying to pull a fast one, who can blame them? CMA Cables recognizes the need for quality products, and we place it at the core of our value system.

Of course, the level of concern you place on a product’s quality depends on the type of product. You probably won’t lose too much sleep if a plastic fork breaks in half. On the other hand, you might have a stroke if your car’s break cables malfunction. CMA Cables supplies fields where a quality product can affect the safety of our customers. Whether it’s for transportation, recreational, medical, furniture, or just a general application, CMA Cables takes the following initiatives to ensure top-of-the-line, quality products.

ISO Registered Company

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) maintains a family of standards for quality management systems. As the requirements change over time, the rules are updated. Some of the basic requirements include:

• a set of procedures that cover all key processes in the business
• monitoring processes to ensure they are effective
• keeping adequate records
• checking output for defects, with appropriate and corrective action where necessary
• regularly reviewing individual processes and the quality system itself for effectiveness
• facilitating continual improvement

Committed to Six Sigma Principles

According to many business development and quality improvement experts, Six Sigma is the most popular management methodology in history. Six Sigma is used as an all-encompassing business performance methodology in organizations as diverse as local government departments, prisons, hospitals, the armed forces, banks, and multi-nationals corporations.

We Rigorously Apply SPC

Statistical process control (SPC) is the application of statistical methods to the monitoring and control of a process to ensure that it operates at its full potential to produce conforming product. This is a common tool used on manufacturing lines to limit waste and increase efficiency. This tactic greatly reduces any risk of a product needing to be re-manufactured.

Other Initiatives

In conjunction with the initiatives listed above, CMA Cables has a continuous improvement program. Also, we offer material traceability, material testing, and complete documentation packages.

The Importance of Medical Cable Assemblies

Medical cable assemblies are widely used in hospitals, clinics, labs, and medical facilities. Their purpose is to connect medical equipment for patient monitoring and treatment.

The cables are often subject to high temperatures, tension, and abrasion. The increased wear and tear is a primary factor consisted during the manufacturing process. The assembly specifications considered include the cable type, conductor range, plating, shielding, insulation, and material used. These not only have to withstand high temps and tension but also resist chemical sterilization procedures in order to meet the high regulatory standards that medical facilities are held to.

To give you an idea of where medical cable assemblies are used, think of a cardio monitor being hooked up to a heart patient. The patient’s heart rate must remain within a certain range in order to keep them healthy and alive. Cable assemblies not only help the monitor function properly but they also connect it to a computer device that collects data and reports on the patient’s heart rhythm so doctors can track the patient’s progress.

Other common medical devices that use cable assemblies include the following…
- Electronic catheters
- Patient monitoring systems
- Ultrasound equipment
- Therapeutic devices
- Lab analysis equipment
- ECG machines
- Heart rate monitors
- Defibrillators
- Fetal monitors

Cable Assembly Warrants Official Assessment

Would you let anyone operate on your body? Would you purchase groceries from any store?
Would you put your safety in the hands of an inefficient cable assembly provider?

Of course, you would seek such services and goods with diligence and a high level of expectation. The cable assembly and manufacturing industry warrants the same diligence. CMA Cable maintains a certificate of approval regarding its mechanical cable assemblies, controls, and related products.

When shopping for mechanical cables, push pull cables, restraint cables, or similar products, you'll want to be sure your provider maintains a certificate symbolizing their allegiance to good practices.

Our certificate of approval is reissued every three years to ensure we maintain our commitment towards excellence. It is good practice to familiarize yourself with certificates associated to industries directly or indirectly related with your own. For instance, CMA Cable serves several industries such as the medical and furniture industries. We make sure buyers within those and other industries understand we maintain all proper certifications granting us permission to manufacture and assemble cables.
